A rare meteorite in the shape of a heart can bring more than 380,000 pounds sterling at auction in time for Valentine's Day.
This meteorite, known as the Heart of the Cosmos, will be put up for sale at an online auction organized by the British auction house Christie's, and will cost from $ 300,000 (£ 228,000) to $ 500,000 (£ 381,000).
The meteorite, whose age is 4.5 billion years, comes from the meteor shower that hit Siberia on February 12, 1947, which was one of the largest observations in history.
It destroyed the chimneys, broken windows, and uprooted trees as it swept through Earth’s atmosphere at a speed of over 30,000 miles per hour.
“This meteorite, which is 4.5 billion years old, was part of a giant piece of iron that broke off from a larger mass in the asteroid belt about 320 million years ago, more than 70 million years before the appearance of the first dinosaurs,” said James. Hislop, a specialist in science and science at Christie & # 39; s.

“This breakaway then began to wander around the cosmos, until finally it collided with the Earth.
“It was the largest meteor shower in the last few thousand years, and for the audience it must have seemed like the end of the world. It's amazing that no one was killed. ”
Initially, the auction was scheduled for completion on February 12, but it was decided to postpone it two days ago to coincide with St. Valentine's Day.
Heart of Space will be open to bidders from February 6 among 45 lots of valuable meteorites.
