Electric traction The RAV4 Prime uses the same version of all-wheel drive on demand (AWD) as the RAV4 Hybrid. In both models, a separate rear electric motor drives the rear wheels when necessary, including with pre-emption when starting acceleration, as well as in conditions of reduced traction. The all-wheel drive system also reduces understeer when cornering to increase steering stability.
Off-road, AWD improves hill climbing performance. The Trail mode selected by the driver allows you to detach by braking the rotating wheel and transmitting torque to the grounding wheel.
