Vehicles must also be completely new or substantially modified from the previous year in order to qualify. Models that were simply continued from last year or have cosmetic changes cannot win.
Corvette 2020 is a major change for the famous American model of sports cars. Since its introduction in 1953, each Corvette has had the engine in front under the hood, like most other cars. The 2020 corvette has an engine behind the seats, more or less in the center of the car. This matches the model of most expensive exotic sports cars such as the Lamborghinis, McLarens and some Ferrari.
Except that the Corvette is not expensive exotic. Prices for the basic version will start at about $ 60,000, compared to $ 200,000, or much more expensive for European exotics.
And the Corvette isn't as good as these cars, Rehtin said. This is just as good, despite being much, much cheaper.
“You can put this thing against any middle class car from Europe, and it’s on an equal footing,” he said.
In addition to its driving, both on public roads and on racetracks, MotorTrend employees also praised Corvette's materials and interior design – something the corvettes of the past criticized for, even good ones – as well as its comfort and convenience.
“This makes the Corvette closer to the Porsche 911 in terms of the availability and reliability of the 24/7 supercar than ever since the 60s,” said Angus Mackenzie, head of MotorTrend's international bureau.
Among the competitors defeated by the Corvette for the award was the Tesla Model 3.
The MotorTrend Group, which includes a print magazine, website and video networks, awards annual awards for the Car of the Year, SUV of the Year and Truck of the Year. The large Kia Telluride crossover was named the SUV of the year, and the heavy-duty Ram the Truck of the Year.
Kia Telluride is the first large SUV of the Korean automaker. Rehtin called it an almost luxurious SUV – and even better than some luxury SUVs – but with prices starting at just over $ 30,000. According to him, even more expensive, well-equipped versions of Telluride are still much cheaper than equivalent luxury models, and much better in quality and performance than SUVs with a similar price.

According to Rehtin, "Ram HD is not only hardworking, but also surprisingly good for riding, even if it does not tow thousands of pounds and does not transport slag concrete."
He said the Ram HD confronts particularly fierce competition, including trucks such as the new Jeep Gladiator and the new Ford Ranger.
