Red Dead Online may share many similarities with its single-player partner, but its storage system is very different. Since you are playing Red Dead Online on an online server, you cannot manually save your progress.
Instead, Red Dead Online will automatically save upon completion of any activity. We recommend waiting a minute or so after adding an item to your inventory or completing an action before moving on to Red Dead Online. Try not to leave the game in the middle of the mission if you can.
If you throw during the action, Red Dead Online should load you back to the control point. For example, one IGN editor dropped out of Red Dead Online, choosing clothes for his character during the intro mission. When she connected to Red Dead Online again, she started by choosing a wardrobe, but he was given different wardrobe options.
