(CNN). The FDA has approved what could be a breakthrough in the treatment of certain types of cancer.

This is called Vitraki.

The drug is designed to combat a specific genetic mutation in some forms of cancer.

And it comes in a convenient capsule or in liquid form.

Doctors say that some patients, including children, have seen remarkable turns.

But they warn that it does not work for all types of cancer, and it is expensive!

“We now have the opportunity to make sure that the right patients receive the right treatment at the right time. This type of drug development program, which enrolled patients with various tumors, but a common gene mutation, would not have been possible ten years ago, because we knew a lot less about such cancer mutations. ” FDA Commissioner Dr. Scott Gottlieb said in a statement

Wholesale prices for children's syrup are $ 11,000 per month.

And oral capsules for adults are priced at $ 32,000 per month.

But with insurance, most patients would pay $ 20 or less for a 30-day supply of medication.
