The Bute County font, Corey Hone, announced that the search teams had completed their work, trying to find human remains in the fire area at the camp fire at a press conference in Chico on Wednesday.
This is an important step forward in trying to reopen areas that remain evacuated. The sheriff warned that these plans may change if weather conditions create additional security problems.
The death toll in the fire remains at 88, and the sheriff said they identified 35 of these remains.
The remains of 6 people remain unknown. The sheriff added the number of missing people for stands 196.
Perhaps people will find the remains when they are returned to the evacuation zone, and the sheriff calls on them to call the sheriff’s office if they find the remains.
