Just two days after the presentation of the electric pickup R1T, the American startup Rivian Automotive presented its second model – the electric crossover Rivian R1S. The model is made on the same platform as the pickup, so that the basic performance characteristics of both models are identical.
In particular, the Rivian R1S with four electric motors and four-wheel drive received the same three modifications with batteries with a capacity of 105 kWh and a power reserve of 370 km, a capacity of 135 kWh and a power reserve of 480 km, and also a capacity of 180 kWh and a power reserve of 640 km.
The power version with the minimum battery capacity is 300 kW (560 Nm), it gains the first 100 mph in 4.9 seconds. The average version received a power of 562 kW (750 hp), the moment of 1120 Nm and the acceleration time to the first "hundred" in 3.0 seconds. The maximum version received a power of 522 kW (time 1120 Nm) and an acceleration time of 3.2 seconds.
Unlike the five-seater pickup truck, the Rivian R1S electrocross has got three rows of seats and seven seats, while the second and third rows of seats can be folded into a covered cargo bay for sufficiently large loads. The length of the R1S crossover is 5040 mm (wheelbase 3075 mm), width – 1710 mm, height – 1820 mm, curb weight is 2650 kg, full – 3470 kg. For comparison, the length of the pickup R1T is 5475 mm (wheelbase – 3450 mm), width – 1710 mm and height – 1815 mm with the same weight.
The Rivian R1S electric car received the same set of sensors (high-precision GPS, cameras, radars, lidars and ultrasonic sensors), sufficient for operating the autopilot 3 levels, as well as a similar dashboard with three touch screens measuring 15.6 inches, 12.3 inches and 6.8 inches.
The cost of the electric Rivian R1S will be from $ 72,500 for the minimum version, sales will start simultaneously with the electric Rivian R1T at the end of 2020. It is obvious that the Tesla Model X electrocross will be the main competitor of the model on the US market.
