Austrian police on Wednesday stole a painting by French painter Pierre Auguste Renoir worth up to 160,000 euros ($ 180,600) from a Vienna auction house and is looking for three suspects.
"The painting, which is called the Persian Gulf, the sea and the green slopes, is a natural look, taken from his frame on Monday night, during his presentation before the planned sale in the Dorotheum auction hall," the police said in a statement.
Police showed photographs of three people suspected of being captured by surveillance cameras. “They are obviously professionals,” she said.
The painting, estimated at between 120 and 160,000 euros, was to be sold at auction that evening.
