Measuring the intensity of the signal, it was possible to determine the approximate position even with the help of Bluetooth, but the new version should significantly improve localization. Using Bluetooth 5.1, it will be possible to determine the position with an accuracy of a centimeter. In addition, it is not limited to measuring the distance to a given object, but it can also determine the direction in which the object is from the transmitter.
More accurate localization is achieved by measuring the phase of the electromagnetic waves at the receiver antennas or at the same receiving antenna when transmitting from several transmitter antennas.
This feature can be used, for example, in the interior, where it can navigate through visitors during tours or help track down lost electronics. Due to the shorter range than GPS, GPS Bluetooth 5.1 will not be able to move by car or other vehicles outside.
