American actor Sylvester Stallone announced on Wednesday that he will no longer play the role of Rocky Balboa, believing that the time has come to make way for the younger generation, as embodied by the new hero of the saga Adonis Johnson.
“Today, when I retired, I was told that the new world is opening up for the public with this generation,” says the actor in a post posted on Instagram, apparently recorded during the filming of “Creed II” released on November 21 in the United States.
Since 1976, Sylvester Stallone played eight roles that made him famous and earned him several Oscar nominations.
“Even if it breaks my heart, it will all end,” he wrote on Instagram. “Rocky will never die because he lives in you,” he tells the saga fans.
“It was a great privilege for me to create and play this important character,” said the 72-year-old comedian, screenwriter, director and producer.
“I thought Rocky had finished in 2006, and that filled me up perfectly,” he says in this video at night in what looks like a wasteland, in the presence of the Creed II team.
“And suddenly this young man appeared, and the whole story changed,” he continues, presumably pointing to actor Michael B. Jordan, who is present during the filming of the video, even if he remains in the field.
In “Creed – the Legacy of Rocky Balboa” and “Creed II,” a young actor plays Adonis Johnson, the son of boxer Apollo Creed, the best friend of Rocky Balboa, who died under the blows of Soviet Ivan Drago during a battle above,
After the initial refusal, Stallone finally accepted the offer of a young director Ryan Kugler, who wanted to revive the saga in a much more relevant version.
According to the Mojo Box Office cash agency, released in 2015, Creed, in which Rocky prepares Adonis for professional wrestling, became a worldwide hit with an income of $ 173 million.
The eighth installment of the Creed II saga seems to have delivered at least as much as last weekend, the best start ever made for the film in the United States, including Rocky.
