CINEMA – Official Recidak Opening Ceremony: Bad Movie by Mahammed Boun Abdallah Dionne

The official opening ceremony of the Rencontres Cinématographiques de Dakar (Recidak) International Film Festival, held last Friday at the Grand Theater, was marked by the absence of Prime Minister Mahammad Baun Abdullah Dion. The latter, who was supposed to preside at these meetings, failed in the cultural world, who after almost two hours of waiting decided to make his own movie without the head of government.

For the ceremony, which was supposed to start at 6 pm, the audience, who attended the official opening of Redikak last Friday, waited until 7:40 pm to see how the first actors of the movie of these dates took to the stage. Almost 2 hours of the clock are waiting for Prime Minister Mahammed Baun Abdullah Dion, who, although announced in the casting as president of this ceremony, will finally not take part in the film, which began with a course on the history of cinema, thanks to music, dancers and some images , choreographer Jean Tamba within a few minutes understood his tour of the world in the cinema. And this is where old films (Westerns, classics, Bollywood, Senegalese) took their place (Mandat bi Ousmane Sembène, special jury prize at the Venice Biennale of 1968). Similarly, the great icons of Senegalese and African cinema took their place at this official ceremony, which was an opportunity to pay tribute to them.
The philosopher and former director of the Moroccan cinema center Noureddine Sahil, who also gave a inaugural lecture by these Redikaks, received a warm tribute to the Minister of Culture, as well as costume designer and fashion designer, Umi-si and Annette Mbaye Erneville, who was at the beginnings of Recidak. The mother of the cinema, still known by the nickname “Mother Bee”, who spoke through her son Usmane William Mb, expressed her pride when she saw that Reikdak exists and continues to exist. She also noted her desire to see the first 8 digitized editions to make them more accessible to the public.
For his part, the Minister of Culture paid tribute to this lady. He also summarized the results of Fopika and stressed the importance of culture and Redikak. “Redikaki are an important asset for the development of Senegalese cinema, an excellent opportunity for exchanging and exchanging films of the world and Africa,” he said, I am sure that this meeting will help return the cinema to the heart of Dakar’s cultural activities and become an opportunity to instill in young people a love for cinema, real film education … The president of the organizing committee of Maguèye Kassé, who preceded the minister on the podium, also stressed the importance of film and film production for the country. The importance that the Dakar public does not seem to provide cinema. Dakar has not yet hit the movie fever. At the official opening of the Redidak, the Bolshoi Theater was not complete, as expected. Only filmmakers answered the call. And if the absence of the prime minister violated the susceptibility of those who were present, others, such as Dean Ben Diogai Bee, were not injured. “Whether there is a prime minister there or not, whether the public is responding or not, it doesn’t matter!” The bottom line is that the cinema continues to make cinema, ”he said.
