Police cordoned off the Hamilton-Pichgrove Road site after a serious accident.
Two fatal accidents, one on State Highway 1 in Northland and another on a busy suburban street in Hamilton, claimed the lives of two people.
One person died and two others were slightly injured after an accident with three cars on SH1, near Prescott Road, in Ruacac, on Wednesday evening.
A police spokesman said the accident occurred around 6.55 pm. “Two others suffered minor injuries,” the spokeswoman said.
SH1 was closed in the area, but reopened around 11pm.
A representative of the Fire and Emergency Service in New Zealand reported that at 1804 hours. Two fire engines were sent to the scene. One person was initially trapped, a spokesman said. By 8.58 pm the man was released.
A spokeswoman for St. John Beverly Tse said ambulances arrived at the scene around March 21. According to Tse, two patients with minor injuries were taken to the Whangarei hospital.
In Hamilton, a motorcyclist died after an accident on Peachgrove Rd in Claudelands.
Police cordoned off a stretch of road to the south of the busy Five Intersections roundabout after the accident at around 18.25. The rider died at the scene, confirmed in a police statement.
The traffic around the scene remained intense, as vehicles heading north towards Pichgrove Road deviated from Daisy Street. At the scene was a serious police unit, which asked motorists to leave the area.
Were seen officers inspecting a motorcycle. It was assumed that the road will be closed for some time.
One resident of Daisy St, who refused to be called, said she first learned about the accident after hearing a series of police sirens.
“There are always police cars going up and down this street, this is a very busy section of the road,” she said. "We drank tea, but when I went out and saw that all the traffic was increasing, then I realized that something was going to happen."
