A person seriously injured in a house fire in southern Auckland

A man was seriously injured in a home fire in southern Auckland.

A police spokeswoman said they received several calls about a fire on East Tamaki Rd, Otar on Tuesday morning.

A spokeswoman said that the fire and emergency NZ visited the fire at 6.15 am and called the police for the incident at 6.35 am.

She said that one person had serious injuries from burns.

At this stage, it is unclear how the fire started, she added.

A staff member at a nearby Mobil gas station said she saw smoke coming from the house.

She said that they called 111 for security reasons and saw that three fire engines had arrived at the scene.

An employee from Caltex on East Tamaki Rd said he could see black smoke and hear sirens around 6:20 in the morning.
