Dr. Mohammed Shaker, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, participated in the final meeting of the third conference on sustainable development under the auspices of the League of Arab States, held in Cairo.
The Minister of Electricity reviewed the problems that the sector has been facing since June 2014, as well as the procedures for overcoming them and the achievements achieved by the sector. He noted that one of the most important tasks facing the electricity sector since 2014 is the deficit between 2000 and 3000 megawatts. More than 6000 MW. The effect of dilution loads was a serious damage to all consumers without exception.
He noted that the main dependence on fossil fuels in the operation of power plants without taking into account the diversification of energy sources was one of the problems faced by the sector in which it was based at stations with fossil fuels, in total about 89% of the energy balance (43% of Bukhara, 35% car cycle and 11% gas).
He added that the electricity sector has taken many measures to overcome the problem of power outages, where he has been able to overcome this problem once and for all since June 2015.
Regarding the measures taken by the sector to overcome power outages, Shaker stressed that the electricity and renewable energy sector uses a scientific approach in research and analysis to study the problem of periodic interruptions and identify root causes and develop appropriate solutions in accordance with the implementation of these goals. Adding about 3636 megawatts with a total investment of about 2.7 billion dollars.
He added: “Completion of power generation projects totaling 4,250 megawatts with a total investment of about $ 4 billion, the obligation to implement maintenance programs and deadlines at the specified time by 100%, continued coordination with the Ministry of Oil to provide the necessary fuel for operating Republic level. "
In March 2015, under the auspices of President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi, during the economic conference held in Sharm el-Sheikh, the largest projects for the electricity sector were concluded, including the implementation of three integrated cyclic stations with a total capacity of 14,400 MW. The project was implemented in collaboration with Siemens using the latest technologies in this area. Efficiency over 60% to reduce fuel consumption and reduce emissions with a total investment of 6 billion euros.
He noted that the three stations that emit in Egypt annual fuel costs in the amount of $ 1 billion. The United States, Mr. President, witnessed the opening of these stations on July 27 last year and the sector’s strategy to improve the efficiency of power plants in order to reduce the cost of the power unit, where the conversion of power plants to the operation of the cyclic system the car has a total capacity of about 1,840 MW.
He added that it is expected that the total capacity added to the capacity of up to 25 thousand megawatts by the end of 2018 is equivalent to 12 times the capacity of the High Dam.
“To move to a more sustainable phase, the electricity and renewable energy sector did not stop there, but in collaboration with an international think tank (SOFRECO), he developed a strategy for the optimal technical and economic combination of energy in Egypt until 2035, in order to maximize the participation of renewable energy. energy sources in the energy balance, by 2035 to reach more than 42%. The energy mix also includes the whole variety of renewable energy sources (nuclear, coal, gas …). The strategy also included the goal of rationalizing energy consumption in all sectors by 18%. "
He added: “A five-year plan was also created for the sector (2022-2027), to which new power plants will be added, including the first nuclear power plant in Dabaa, where President Abdelfattah al-Sisi and Russian President Vladimir Putin signed an initial signal on the inclusion and the implementation of contracts for the nuclear power plant Dub & # 39; a. In the presence of President Ross Atom. ”
He explained that the first Egyptian nuclear plant in Dabaa consists of four nuclear reactors with a total capacity of 4,800 megawatts of advanced third-generation nuclear reactors with an expected lifespan of about 60 years and a unit commissioning date from 2026 to 2029.
He added: “The framework agreement was signed between the Egyptian Electric Holding Company (EEHC) and Sinohidro (China) to create the first station in the Middle East to generate electricity from water stations using 2,400 MW of pumping and storage technology on Mount Attack. The estimated cost is about $ 2,672 billion. From energy produced from new and renewable sources and stored during availability, and then used during periods of peak hours needed.
"This sector has successfully concluded energy purchase agreements with 32 companies, with the result that the total capacity will be installed on a solar power plant with a capacity of 14,000 megawatts in Binban, which is funded by international financial institutions and organizations with a total investment of about $ 2 billion."
Shaker added that strengthening transmission and distribution networks is one of the challenges facing the sector in order to absorb the great opportunities that are added to the national electricity network and reduce the loss of the electricity network, where the parallel network is built on high and high efforts in light of the development of the network power lines. Development of a distribution network with its missions at the level of the Republic.
