This year, regional health officials recorded twelve cases of Type A jaundice. “This is not an epidemic, they all came from abroad. However, the risk of an epidemic return is very high, ”said Renata Chiupek, director of the anti-epidemic department of the public health service.
The situation can very quickly aggravate low population coverage. “Most people do not have antibodies to improve their standard of living and hygiene from jaundice. This is associated with a high risk of recurring epidemics, ”said Peter Husa, head of the infectious diseases clinic at the University Hospital Brno.
In the upcoming Christmas markets, the risk of infection may be greater due to eating outdoors. Therefore, prevention is important. “The main thing is vaccination and strict hygiene,” said Husa.
Hepatitis B is also dangerous, carried in unprotected sex. Even people underestimate her. “Over the past five years, infant vaccination has dropped dramatically. It used to be almost 100%, now it is less than eighty percent, Gus warned.
Against hepatitis C, which is spreading especially among drug addicts, vaccination is not yet available.
