This year, the provincial government, the municipality of Corrientes, and the AIDS Relief Foundation conducted more than 5,000 free and confidential tests for the early detection of HIV / AIDS. In this sense, the Deputy Minister of Health of the commune Arturo Sandoval stressed the work in this area and stressed the importance of monitoring.
As part of the signing of an agreement with this fund, Vice-President Emilio Lanari said: “We have more than 5 thousand cases this year, with a positive prevalence of 1%. There are many people who have learned that they have HIV with these control bodies, to which we offer a system of restraint, support and communication with the health care system in order to guarantee their treatment. ”
In this regard, it should be noted that the agreement was concluded within the framework of the project “Prevention of HIV, viral hepatitis and STIs”, which will be aimed at creating mechanisms, frameworks, policies, actions and commitments between the municipality and the foundation for expanding the early detection and treatment of HIV / AIDS Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among vulnerable groups.
With regard to the agreement, the AHF Research Director for Latin America and the Caribbean and the Argentine branch coordinator Miguel Pedrola noted that “it is important to achieve the goals that we all have in the field of public health: expanding access to testing for people living with HIV, providing good quality care and treatment within a framework without discrimination or stigma. ”
At the same time, he stressed that “today the World Health Organization (WHO) states that people should be contacted as soon as possible, less than seven days before a diagnosis is made. This allows effective treatment to ensure that there is no detectability of the virus in the blood. Today we know that “undetectable” patients do not transmit HIV. This is important for preventing infections. ”
“We have been working for several months with a foundation. We were at Plaza Cabral, Torrent and other strategic points. Some time ago we also included him in operatives, they give us good results, because there is a significant proportion of people who do not know that they are living with HIV, ”said Sandoval El Litoral and said that in December they will do the same work. "Strictly in primary health care centers."
On the other hand, they reported that within the framework of World AIDS Day, which is celebrated every 1 month of the following month, the municipality will hold an awareness day with local associations, the medical faculty of the National University of the Northeast (Unne) and the provincial government.
In this context, they recalled that in each health protection operation, together with the Ministry of Public Health, the municipality conducts rapid tests, the results of which are obtained ten minutes after performing a small blood sample with a puncture in the finger. The test is confidential and voluntary.
