Carabineros school protest: orchestra interpreted “Arauco sorry” while working

At the end of the concert with the music of Gaetano Donizetti, the Student Orchestra of the University of Chile performed the theme of Violetta Parra in protest against the death of Camilo Katrillian.

It happened last Tuesday at the Chilean Carabinieri school located in Providencia. At the end of the interpretation of the opera Elixir of love, the Italian composer Gaetano Donizetti, the Student Orchestra of the University of Chile, missed the instructions of his director, teacher Eduardo Brown: "This is not a script for politics."

“It is precisely because we are artists that we have to express ourselves,” says cellist Marcelo Mella, who participated in the group’s protest.

“It was a stage to do something peaceful and reasonable,” he adds.

A student of interpretation says that the orchestra agreed to play "Arauco sorry" after the presentation was completed during the final function, but its director did not agree.

"Even the people of the choir, behind the scenes, were threatened not to participate."

“It was courageous that he played at the Carabinieri Theater in Chile, at the same Carabinieri school. I am very proud of the symbolic and strong of our act, it was a giant milestone! – says Mella.

at registry of the almost two minutes published by FECh, you can see musicians following the tune of Violetta Parr without her orchestra conductor.

According to Mella: “When the concert ends, and we agree to make a song, there is a discussion with the director, which makes everything amazing for people. He told us that we were finished, that we could no longer play.

Then he continues: “Although there was a discussion with some carabineros behind the scenes, finally, how all the people began to record, and for a symbolic moment the audience applauded. There was definitely a time and place to say something. ”

“Many changes or historical processes were initiated by art. And we hope this is one, ”he adds.
