Justice Minister Saskatchewan says his government will follow Ottawa’s lead on how to deal with the province’s relations with Huawei, a Chinese communications firm.
Don Morgan says that Crown owned SaskTel will not acquire any new technology from Huawei.
He expressed provincial concerns during a telephone call with Federal Minister of Public Security Ralph Goodale.
The United States has uncovered 13 criminal charges of conspiracy, fraud and obstruction against the company and senior director Meng Wanzhou, who is currently in Canada and is being extradited.
Saskatchewan’s SDP opposition stated that the charges of espionage and security threats from Huawei may require SaskTel to terminate the contract with the company.
Morgan says Saskatchewan finds himself in a difficult position because he has invested more than $ 200 million in Huawei services.
