Ringing in the New Year in Toronto: what is open, what is closed and what is happening

Here is a look at what is happening in the city on the eve of the New Year 2018 and what is open and closed on the New Year.

New Year's events:

New Year on Nathan Phillips Square

Free event starts at 8pm. until midnight and includes a DJ riding party, live music performances and fireworks.

ROM New Year

A special dinner will be held in ROM, as well as a celebration with dancing, live bands and toast at midnight.

New Year Party in Las Vegaston

The Gladstone Hotel hosts a celebration in Vegas, which will be held in the New Year. The event starts at 21:00.

Open closed:

New Year's Eve:

  • The LCBO closes at 6 pm. (or 8 pm in certain places)

  • Beer Store: Seats close at 6 pm.

  • TTC runs on a Sunday schedule, and passengers can ride for free after 19:00. until 7 am on New Year’s Day

  • GO Transit offers free trips after 19:00. on New Year's Eve and the last train leaves Union Station at 3:23 am.

New Year's Day:

  • Tourist attractions are open, including AGO, Casa Loma, CN Tower, ROM, Toronto Zoo

  • Some malls are open, including the CF Toronto Eaton Center, Square One and CF Vaughan Mills

  • Most banks and grocery stores are closed.

  • Many restaurants are open

  • GO Transit is open during holidays.

  • TTK is working on a Sunday schedule
