NBA Awards for the first quarter of the season

Despite the fact that all but two NBA teams played at least 20 games, we hope you enjoyed the extra rest, Dallas and Detroit – now we are a quarter of the way in the 2018-1919 season. Perhaps you think that it may be too early to say that the team looked good, or that the player is doing great, or that something very cool is happening in[[[[Insert non-Bay Area NBA city here]Perhaps you think you expect to see that the good / great / cool thing for Real is the most reasonable course of action. Perhaps you would prefer to stay on the praise before the start of the playoffs, or win the title, or the NBA gives away trophies in some hangar in Santa Monica two and a half months after the end of the regular season.

Well, nuts to this! It is better to be early than late, and life is too short and often terrible, so as not to scream when you can. So let's celebrate our arrival at the managed part, giving away some rewards based solely on performance so far. Maybe the state of the game will change so dramatically that these applauses will look silly for April or even the All-Star break, but this is a kind of point. NBA moves pretty fast. (Especially now.) If you do not stop and do not look around from time to time, you can skip this.

Quarter Team: Toronto Predators

Toronto has the best NBA record and the second most effective differential ratio. His two starting lineups – Kavi Leonard and Pascal Siakam on the forward, Kyle Lowry and Danny Green in the rear, as well as Serge Ibaka or Jonas Valanchunas in the center – two of the four most dominant groups with a big NBA minute. Siakam broke away from the screen in a larger role, looking like a star in the making, and the game at Lowry took off in the best ranks; he pushes Kemba Walker for the title of best guard to the east. The quirky reserve corps began to stabilize with Fred VanVlet from the butt on his feet, and Delon Wright found his form after a groin injury: Toronto beat his opponents by 4.5 points for 100 things, when the backup guards shared the floor with Valanchunas, OG Anunoby summer swing.

There are reasons to question the team: a soft early schedule, which could overstate their number, the decisive loss of Milwaukee on the night when neither Leonard nor Jannis Antecokumpo played, spotty excursions that led to the final second drama against Detroit and Orlando, at that time they simply could not stop Kiri Irving, etc. But these are minor flaws in the diamond list, which is already the best in the league, even if Leonard is not fully integrated. The Raptors are scary enough, and Leonard does not play back to back and misses two-thirds of his 3-pointers. Soon they can be terrible.

I also get theoretical voices in my brain: Milwaukee Bucks, Denver Nuggets, Los Angeles Clippers

Quarter player: Giannis Antetokounmpo, Bucks

I thought hard about the selection of Joel Ambida, which was completely unusual for the 76ers. He was all that Philadelphia could count on, placing the main numbers of Shaq and Karem, significantly strengthening his weaknesses (support rate, turnover rate) and the rest of his single largest team; Fili has an exact opponent's differential with 55 wins when he is on the court, and the teams of the 18-winning team are still processing, according to Glass cleaning,

Honestly, I also thought about choosing Stephen Curry. His individual production was incredible; his fee per minute / per turn and shooting efficiency up from his unanimous MVP 2015-16 season, despite the fact that Kevin Durant is playing his team now. And although the fact that he missed 11 games obviously matters, I think it is shrinking in both directions. The fact that the warriors were so ordinary with him, outpacing opponents by 13.8 points for 100 things when he plays, compared with a negative point difference when he does not do this, even with an affordable Durant, was sharp enough to make I think about throwing a voice for the value of a player whose presence turns his team into one of the best ever.

But although there are many good answers to this question, there is probably only one right answer.

Claims on the starting career in Antetokounmpo exceed basically all, except for 3 percent percent. He is one of the top five in the league in almost every single advanced statistical category. He became a young Shaq and a young LeBron on the rim, he gets to the free throw line and rolls dice at the highest pace of his career, he has no no. 1 in the league, and Bucks – almost 12 points for 100 things better with him on the floor than from him. After the arrival of coach Mike Budenholzer in the summer, in order to modernize the Bax scheme at both ends of the floor, we expected it to be Giannis season. Things need not be surprising.

ARTVIMB: Embilly, Anthony Davis, LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Kemba Walker

Rookie Quarter: Luca Doncic, Mavericks

It seemed almost impossible that Donchik justified the hype that accompanied his arrival from Real, winning almost everything that can be won in European basketball as a teenager, but he does it. Nineteen games in the career of the NBA, he has already become sure to watch TV.

Here is a list of players who scored 19 points, six rebounds and four assists per game as recruits: Michael Jordan, Karim Abdul-Jabbar, Oscar Robertson, Larry Bird, Elgin Baylor, Grant Hill and Sidney Weeks. Here is a list of newcomers who shot at 45 percent from the floor, 39 percent from the 3-point range and 79 percent from the free-throw line, ending with more than a quarter of their teams attempting a shot, foul, or turnover: Bird and Kiri Irving. Doncic is gaining momentum to join both lists, all the while acting as lead scorer, timekeeping creator and patient gaming catalyst for the Mavericks team, which has wildly surpassed expectations.

The No. 1 overall choice of Dandre Aiton was phenomenal offense and on boards in Phoenix. He is on his way to becoming the first newcomer, since Blake Griffin averages over 16 points, 10 rebounds and two assists per game, and he does this, shooting 61.5% from the field at 11.6 attempts per game. Jaren jackson jr goes to a wonderful start in Memphis, leading all newbies in the blocks and taking third place during the thefts, removing almost 35 percent of the depth as the key screw in the best NBA security lineup. There were some star newbies. But this is not so close.

ARTVIMB: Ayton, Jackson, Shay Gilgeus-Alexander

Quarter reserve: Domantas Sabonis, Pacers / Montrell Harrell, Clippers (tie)

I know, I know: a tie is the refuge of a sneaky marriage. But you try to separate these two, their production and the impact they have had on their teams hoping for playoffs.

Both have almost exclusively high-grade and high-value images. Both make them at elite bets, and Sabonis is third in the league in effective field percentage, and Harrell is in fifth place. Sabonis has become one of the most voracious NBA bounces and is an excellent passage. Harrell is a more versatile and destructive protector, and his lack of integrity inside made him a dirty magnet; among the players who have earned 300 minutes, only Rudy Gobert and Tyson Chandler have a higher chance of a free throw.

The Pacers were all-star All-Star, Victor Oladipo, in the last six games and barely missed a beat, mainly thanks to Sabonis (an average of 17.8 points, 12.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists in 25.7 minutes per game on this plot). to completely dominate against opposing defenses. Harrell's jerk and the ever-spinning engine were equally integral to LA's stunning start, as an effective win for Tobias Harris and Danilo Gallinari, or playmaking by Lou Williams and Gilgeus Alexander. They were better than the big ones that they support.

ARTVIMB: Williams, Derrick Rose, Julius Randle, JJ Barey, Shelvin Mac, Evan Turner, Corey Joseph, Monte Morris … man, were lot really good backups this season.

Defensive Quarter Player: Mark Gasol, Grizzly

Six years after he won the Defender of the Year, Gasol again pilots one of the most meager NBA outfits. The Grizzlies take the third place in the defensive efficiency of the midfield and the fifth in the points allowed for ownership (discounting the time of the garbage), according to Glass cleaningWhile several key offseason moves (preparation for Jackson Jr., the import of veterans early Kyle Anderson and Garrett's Temple) played a major role, it was the Spaniard in the center of the rebirth. The combination of Gasol length, patience, instincts and experience meant everything.

"He communicates so well with us, which allows him to be in the right position," said longtime teammate Mike Conley Athletic"He is so clever of everything he does."

In an era when overload protection is all rage, the Grizzlies basically keep everything simple. They expect the defenders to compare one on one, fight over the upper screens and stay in touch with their men, while their teammates with the ball squeeze the floor and clean the carriageways. Gasol finishes things, dropping back into the alley to detach from the front of the rim.

This is a scheme that combines conservatism and aggression, and one in which everything can go very badly if everything is not connected. Gasol ensures that the Grizzlies remain on the same page, barking up their responsibilities and correcting on the fly, and giving their teammates confidence that they are doing their job, knowing that they are not alone. His verbal guide kicks Memphis's warning into overdrive; The Grizzlies allow almost four less points for 100 items with Gazol on trial.

ARTVIMB: Robert Covington, Ambiyd, Antekokunmpo, Davis, Rudy Gobert, Paul George

Most Improved Quarter Player: De Aaron Fox Kings

I know, I know: guys must recover from the 1st to the 2nd year. this much better.

At 6 feet 3 with a quick fast first step, Fox showed signs as a rookie that he could be something special. (My personal favorite: the extremely cool winner of the game in Miami). But, as a cross-sport of Luis Mendoza, he could not always use all this speed or use the space created in order to earn defense. During the summer, however, Fox became stronger, worked on changing gears and picked up about a million jumpers. It was time well spent.

Freed from the constraints of a cheat, a low postcentral offense, and handing over the keys to an attack based on space and speed, Fox was a much more dangerous player this season. He averages 17.4 points, 7.6 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 1.2 thefts per game. Now he confidently steps and rolls 3 seconds off the screen and from the catch, hitting 38.5% of his long-distance attempts.

He began to figure out how to command the possession of half-ships – to read a chessboard, not to rush, set in motion, and then strike:

He is also still good at “just bursting past.”

Fox sets the pace in Sacramento, topping the list full of young athletes who want to run away to keep up. How far he can get them, they have yet to see, but he, along with partner partner Buddy Hidd, another worthy opponent for most of the improved honors, has already led them out of the desert and onto the road to actuality. Not a bad start.

ARTVIMB: Caris LeWert (get well soon), Siakam, Sabonis, Harrell, Tobias Harris, Zack LaVine

Yooooo! Award for the most pleasant surprise in the quarter: Los Angeles Clippers

Before the season, Vegas set the expected Clippers winning bid at 37.5; in 21 games they have a point differential team with 53 wins, according to Glass cleaningI wrote about the amazing beginning of the clips in the season on Monday, and they continued to skate with strong shows against the Sun and Kings, using the same formula to continue placing points in the beams.

Constantly cultivating Tobias Harris has become one of the most successful scorers in the NBA and can easily make his first all-union look if he keeps it. Healthy Danilo Gallinari is again one of the half-dozen best league shooters. Even mired in the early shooting season, Williams remains one of the top scorers in the fourth quarter of the game. Harrell betrays far beyond what should be “cleansed” by the “energy guy.” The novice guard Shai Gilgeus-Alexander broke out with a poiss and playing tweaks for his years, earning a place in the starting lineup of Doc Rivers (which, by the way, was a dynamite from the moment it was inserted).

One feels that the center cannot hold here, for example, the shooting of Harris and Gallinari will pass, as the leading free throw rate can go away if the refs call things a little weaker as the season wears, and how Harrell can stop production based on levels achieved only by Karim Abdul-Jabbar, Hackem Olajuwon, David Robinson, Anthony Davis, Dwight Howard and before the injury of Antonio McDays. But let it be tomorrow's worries. Right now, Clippers is one of the deepest, most powerful teams in the NBA. If you saw it happen two months ago, you could have done looooooot of money.

ARTVIMB: Sacramento Kings (perhaps for real!), Charlotte Hornets (Kemba!), Orlando Magic (they are not bad!), Dallas Mavericks (Halleluka!)

Yiiiiikes! Award for the biggest disappointment in the quarter: The Boston Celtics

This season there were no more reminders than the Celtics that the NBA is not a fantastic basketball or game. 2K, You can’t just take a team that went to its feet with LeBron in the playoffs, transferred to two All-Stars and simply counted on simple arithmetic operations, hey, they can both average 20 night!– create a juggernaut. Perhaps it was short-sighted (and I mean us) to expect that the Celtics will simply stomp their way to over 60 victories.

But surely they should be better than this, right? Boston currently sits at 11-10, tied to the sixth in the East, with the sixth worst NBA offense, still trying to figure out who should play with whom and how to consistently generate quality views in a team that includes at least a few guys who can get their own chance.

Even after giving a grace period for experimenting with a wildly gifted registry, the Celtics crossed the line from “understandable growing pains” to “no, seriously, what the hell is going on?”, At least a couple of weeks ago. Only the defense of aerobatics prevented Celtics’s missed movement at the bottom of the conference, and even that was a bit of an illusion lately. Boston took first place in defensive effectiveness for two weeks this season, but in the last month he took almost the top 10 units, and it was especially difficult for him to stop the guards from hammering, such as Jamal Murray, Kemba Walker, Devin Booker and Trey Burke on of them. No amount of glitter Kyrie can save the Celtics if they cannot hide opponents. Math just doesn't work.

Despite this, given the huge amount of talent, it seems that Boston needs small adjustments, not wholesale changes. Coach Brad Stevens made a few on Tuesday against New Orleans, sliding his nose forward Marcus Morris Sr. and attacking the talisman Marcus Smart in the starting lineup and giving bruises Aaron Baines 20 minutes of outdoor time only the second time this season. The early returns were staggering — Boston stomped pelicans, with nasty-looking protection, Irving in a show bag, and Al Horford, Jason Tatum and Terry Rosier seemed just as comfortable as from the mid-Eastern Conference finals.

After Marcos entered the game to add spark and toughness, as well as the upcoming schedule of games against the Cavs, Knicks, Bulls, Pelicans, Wizards, Hawks and Suns until Christmas, the fate of Boston may soon end. Enjoy the scent, Masshole haters: until the Celtics hit the line, they may start to look like a team that we all expected to see for too long.

ARTVIMB: Houston Rockets, Utah Jazz
