Maud creates "HD" Final Fantasy VII using AI neural networks

We saw the original rock made "HD" using AI neural networks, now it's the turn Final Fantasy VII, with the mod for the computer version of the game, creating backgrounds with a resolution of 4 times.

The creator of the CaptRobau mod explains how it works:

Remako HD Graphics Mod is a mod that fully updates the pre-rendered backgrounds of the classic JRPG Final Fantasy VII. All backgrounds now have a resolution 4 times the resolution of the original.

Using artificial intelligence neural networks, this upscaling attempts to emulate the details that the original renders would have. This helps new visual capabilities to get as close as possible to higher resolution, which is possible with the help of modern technology.

It sounds too good to be true, but just like with rockthe results speak for themselves: the backgrounds of the game really look amazing, in a way, “I remember how they looked since 1997”.

Here is a video showing the mod in action comparing the original backgrounds with the new HD versions:

But a little gameplay:

The mod is still in beta, but should work with any version of the PC game. You can download it and try it here.
