BETHESDA, Maryland. Information that there are 500 million people in Starwood hotels has been compromised, and Marriott claims to have discovered unauthorized access that has been taking place on Starwood since 2014.
The company said Friday that credit card numbers and expiration dates for some guests may be accepted.
Marriott said that in September his database was broken, which included guest information regarding reservations at Starwood hotels no later than September 10th.
Marriott discovered during the investigation that someone had copied and encrypted the guest information and said that he was now working on deleting the information.
