Honda All-American Passport Honda SUV will take on Ford, Nissan and Chevy

Honda unveiled the all-new Passport SUV on Wednesday at the 2018 LA8 showroom. Passport nameplate returns to the market after a 17-year absence. The original Honda Passport, restored by Isuzu Rodeo, was sold in the United States until 2002.

“We saw an opportunity to deliver what Honda is uniquely capable of doing, and the new Passport is in an excellent position to capture buyers looking for a more personal, powerful and capable Honda SUV,” said Genio Arcangeli Jr., senior vice president of American Motor Company Honda. The company said in a statement.

The new passport will grow against such well-known rivals as the Ford Edge and Nissan Murano, as well as the recently revived Chevrolet Blazer. The presence of a passport also gives Honda buyers an SUV crossover, an alternative to its persistent Accord sedan.

A mid-size five-passenger passport will be located between the existing Honda hot sellers, the compact CR-V and the seven-seater pilot.

The passport and pilot are built on the global platform of Honda light trucks. In fact, both SUVs have the same wheelbase, but the passport is six inches shorter.

The new Passport will be standard with a 280-horsepower, 3.5-liter i-VTEC V6 engine coupled to a nine-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard. But as an option is offered a universal system of full drive with torque with intelligent control of the pitch.

According to Honda, Passport's front wheels can tow up to 3,500 pounds, while all-wheel drive models can pull up to 5,000 pounds. Available specifications include a 4g LTE wi-fi hotspot, charging a cordless phone, Apple CarPlay / Android Auto integration and a Honda Sensing security help system.

A passport is an all-American mix. The SUV was designed and developed by Honda R & D teams in California and Ohio. The passport and its engine will be built at the Honda Lincoln, Alabama plant.

The 2019 Honda Passport will go on sale early next year. Honda has not yet announced the official price, but expects the passport will start at about $ 28,000.
