Recently, some Chrome OS users have reported poor performance when using their devices in tablet mode.
Fortunately, Google seems to be working on a fix.
As noticed Chrome unboxedA recent bug tracker showed that Google plans to correct the screen delay in the multitask mode of the Chrome OS tablet. Based on the tracker, it seems that the low frame rate can be explained by how Chrome OS displays rounded corners of the screen.
“It seems a lot of animation comes from using Mask Layers to create rounded corners. This, combined with the blurring of the background, adds a lot of additional steps in the drawing / rendering pipeline, ”the message says in the tracker.
"Performance (increase fps) and memory improvement (tiles [don’t] receive a refusal, and we actually see the contents) is of great importance for Nocturne Celeron when the rounded corners are removed. ”
For example, the tracker notes that removing corners on a Pixel Slate resulted in a “significant” performance improvement.
However, it is unclear when Google will release the fix.
