CD Projekt thought it was impossible to get Keanu Reeves for Cyberpunk 2077

One of the highlights of the E3 2019 was the discovery that Keanu Reeves will be in Cyberpunk 2077and it seems that CD Projekt Red I was also surprised that I got an actor for my next game.

In an interview for GameSpot, the designer Pavel Sasko explained how the studio came to a decision to try to hire an actor to play Johnny Silharenda, who will be the second most important character in a game (behind only the main character).

The developers tried to come up with someone suitable for this role, and thanks to Keanu's extensive training program, he seemed the most obvious choice.

Thanks to his interaction with Johnny Stilverd, you can build relationships in several different ways. And so we racked our brains to find someone. A year ago, the idea arose to try to hire Keanu. This is because he is known for playing strong characters fighting for something that was important to us. See, John Vick, he struggles to survive. Before that, we have a Matrix with Neon, fighting for freedom. […] Johnny Silverhend is like these characters because he is also fighting for something.

However, when they decided to contact Keanu Reeves, they were not too optimistic that they could hire an actor – they really thought it would be impossible. But in the end everything went well!

Therefore, some have decided that they will try to contact Keanu because he is suitable, but we said: “No, this will never work. It's impossible! But at the end we continue the idea. We contacted and began to communicate with him directly. Some developers went to his office to explain what Cyberpunk 2077 is and who Johnny Silverhend is. We were very surprised that he took it so quickly! And he began to offer him ways to play a character. We noticed that he was already deep in the project.

Cyberpunk 2077 will be released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on April 16, 2020.
