Calgary’s bid for the Winter Olympics of 2026 was the official story since Monday. The 15-member city council of a Canadian city unanimously decided not to seek a candidate. It was a formality when 56.4 percent of citizens voted against this draft at a vote last week.
The Plenum of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) will decide on the organizer on June 24, 2019 in Lausanne. Coming out of Calgary, Milan / Cortina d. Ampezzo and Stockholm remain candidates. In Austria, the Graz statement to the Austrian Olympic Committee (KLO) did not endorse the state government of Styria.
