Their new article published in Physical review letters, proposes a new structural concept, including dark energy, for a universe that moves along an expanding bubble in an extra dimension.
For the past 20 years, we have known that the Universe is expanding at a faster pace. The explanation is “dark energy” that permeates it everywhere, forcing it to expand. Understanding the nature of this dark energy is one of the primary mysteries of fundamental physics.
It has long been hoped that string theory will provide the answer. According to string theory, all matter is made up of tiny, vibrating "threadlike" entities. The theory also requires that there be more spatial dimensions than the three, which are already part of everyday knowledge. For 15 years, string models have existed models that are thought to generate dark energy. However, they are subject to ever more severe criticism, and some researchers now argue that none of the models proposed to date are working.
In their article, scientists propose a new model with dark energy, and our Universe is moving along an expanding bubble in an additional dimension. The whole Universe is on the edge of this expanding bubble. All existing matter in the universe corresponds to the ends of the strings that extend into an extra dimension. Researchers also show that expanding bubbles of this type can occur within the framework of string theory. It is possible that we have more bubbles than other universes.
The Uppsala model provides a new, different picture of the creation and future of the universe, and can also pave the way for testing string theory.
