People’s Deputy of the Civil Front and former mayor of the capital Santiago del Estero Hugo "Lito" Infante was found dead today in his house at the age of 70.
The death of the former head of the community of Santiago del Estero (he managed for two periods between 2009 and 2014) would have been the result of a cardiac arrest, as suggested in the first versions of this event, circulated by local media.
The body was discovered at about 6 am this Sunday in his house, located in the private area of "La Horqueta", south of the capital Santiago.
The news of his death caused unrest in his province, which he represented from 2019 at a meeting in the Nationwide Chamber of Deputies as head of the Civil Front bloc, which responds to Governor Gerardo Zamora.
Being a radical cradle, the Infant was a municipal servant, and with his belligerence he held positions in the civil service: he was an adviser, president of the advisory council, intent until he was in the National Congress under the leadership of the governor.
During his ephemeral passage through the lower house – he finished only one year – he was absent in more than half of the sessions, was absent 89 times, according to data published on the deputies' website.
Infante’s last public appearance was last Friday, when he was part of the end-of-year UCR toast in Santiago del Estero.
After his death, the current quartermaster of the capital Santiago, Norma Fuentes, ruled for three days of mourning in the city.
