Numsa meets in Gordhan because of the talk of sharing Eskom

The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa made proposals to loosen Eskom, reiterating that he would resist all attempts to either break the electricity that is fighting for power or to privatize it.

Numsa is one of the three recognized trade unions in Eskom, together with the National Union of Miners and Solidarity.

In a statement on Thursday, Secretary-General of Numsa Irwin Jim said that the union had not been consulted about his views on the division of Eskom.

He answered Speech by Minister of Public Enterprises Praveen Gordkhan at a business discussion with Business Unity South Africa earlier this week.

At the event, Gordkhan said that the government would discuss the division of Eskom "in the near future."

This idea of dividing Eskom has been put forward by energy experts such as Chris Yelland and the Organization for Combating Tax Abuses, as part of a broader strategy to correct debt energy consumption. The idea is usually to divide Eskom into separate power generation and transmission companies.

In July 2018, ANC General Treasurer Paul Mashaili stated that the Eskom press club in Cape Town can be divided into three groups: production, transfer and distribution.

Jim criticized Gordan on Thursday for not doing any work on the future Eskom.

“We are the most important stakeholder in Eskom because we represent the workers and have not been told anything about the future of SOE,” he said.

“Our members are reading these reports, and for understandable reasons they are alarmed by the fact that there has been no consultation with employees regarding the future of Eskom. They have every reason to be concerned, because Eskom recently began to reduce senior managers in December without informing or consulting with the union. ”
