The American Society of Plastic Surgeons reports a significant increase in plastic surgery for men, often to achieve what he calls “papa-del-over”.
The report indicates that last year more than 1.3 million cosmetic procedures were performed for men. This is 29 percent more in plastic surgery for men since 2000.
Explaining the increase
Alan Matarasso, president of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, explained: “Obviously, men do not experience the physical changes that women experience during pregnancy and after pregnancy, but their lifestyle changes, which may affect their appearance. Diet and exercise fluctuate, and they do not sleep so much. Men notice changes in their bodies due to aging and parenting, and this begins to look completely different at the age of 30-40. This is the essence of daddy-del-over.
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons presented the example of Scott, a 57-year-old man who was involved in plastic surgery after trying his best to lose fact in his middle section through diet and exercise. Scott said: “I realized that I’m never going to lose weight by myself. Plastic surgery is a personal decision, but I know guys of my age who did various cosmetic procedures. I think that an open dialogue about plastic surgery is becoming more acceptable, especially for men. ”
What types of cosmetic procedures for men?
The report found that of the more than 200,000 surgical procedures performed on men in 2018, the most popular were
- Eyelid surgery;
- Breast reduction; and
- Hair transplantation.
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons has shown a tendency to “pap-up-over”, surgical and non-surgical correction of body contours and procedures for the face, which are usually performed in a single operation. It says that it is becoming an increasingly common request for a gift for Father's Day to “drive away the“ father's body ”.”
