Hotly Tipped Star Praises La Roux Singer for Taking Fame with a Pinch of Salt and Not Becoming Hung up on Media Potrayal
Hotly-tipped singer-songwriter Ellie Goulding has praised La Roux singer Elly Jackson for her honest approach towards pop stardom.
Goulding - the winner of this year’s Brit Awards Critics’ Choice prize - told DS that she admires the current crop of British female artists for their “strength and ability to deal with everything this industry throws at them”.
Singling out Jackson from La Roux for particular praise, she said: “As much as she’s made out to be bitchy because she speaks out about other artists, at least she’s being honest and she’s often very right about things.
“You’ve got someone like her who’s an outspoken artist, which I prefer to someone like Pixie Lott who’s a fantastic singer but doesn’t say anything her label doesn’t want her to say.”
Goulding, who released her acclaimed debut single ‘Under The Sheets’ last month, also revealed that she admires the way fellow Brit Award winner Bjork has conducted herself during her recording career.
“She’s not had a straightforward career, but she’s one of the most celebrated artists on the planet and she’s carried herself with dignity,” Goulding said. “She’s not afraid of being different and she grows and grows and grows.
“I want to last a long time and to do that you have to keep your integrity, which is what Bjork has done.”
Ellie Goulding releases her next single ‘Starry Eyed’ on February 22.
