Brain Surgery Saves Lives
Neurosurgery is when a doctor opens the skin to perform medical procedures on the brain and other nervous system structures, such as the spinal cord. This is a high skilled field that requires many years of training, mainly over ten with a few towards the end specializing in specific regions of the brain or conditions. There are multiple abnormalities, such as something wrong with the pituitary gland, leaks of cerebrospinal fluid, and tumors. Using new medical techniques and advanced devices a physician can enter the skull and remove tissue that is growing too fast and causing problems, or they can drain fluid that might be building up pressure leading to poor health. There are chronic cases where there is not cure whatsoever and the only option is keep the individual alive and functioning as best as possible. Chiari malformation is an issue that has to be handled, and cleaning out arteries where tiny blood clots stop the flow of oxygen and nutrients to the part that needs it.
The truth is that only in the past couple of years has medicine truly been able to save lives from abnormalities that develop in this part of the body. The doctor is the hero and those who devote their time and energy, basically sacrificing their own free time to assist those in need. There is financial reward for this work, and any that is earned is well deserved.
