Video Game Ringtones Made Easy
Wireless carriers may or may not carry the video game ringtone that you want. If you want to check with them first, you may do so using their “Buy It Now” or looking for “New Ringtones” and purchase them using this method. They may allow you to download the ringtone in .mp3 quality which has full music and voice capabilities.
If you’re interested in a .midi file, which is legal, because it’s synthesized music made to sound like a video game file, then simply follow these instructions and you’ll be all set in no time.
1. Send a text message to your E-mail address. This is important because your phone actually has an E-mail address, just like any of a number of E-mail accounts you have on your computer. It will read something like 8005551234@myphone.com. Copy this down or just hold onto that E-mail, because you will need it later.
2. One of the best archives of video game music is on VGMusic
3. Over on the left hand side is a list of game systems. Pick the system that the video game is from.
4. Now find the game that you want. They’re all sorted alphabetically.
5. When the site will list the titles, they will list the songs that are available. Go ahead and pick one of the songs. Right-click on the song and then select “Save Target As”. You might want to store it somewhere special. One good place is to put the file on your desktop, or put it in a directory where you can find it right away when you go to access it.
6. Check to make sure the file downloaded properly. At this time, you also may want to shorten the length of the ringtone. Remember: It’s a ringtone. You really don’t need a 20-minute ringtone that goes off every time your phone rings, and it probably won’t earn you much street cred. Most ringtones top out at 20 to 25 seconds, so find a good clip and use a sound editing program such as MidiCutter to cut down the length of the ringtone.
7. This is where the E-mail address you’ve stored will come in handy. Go ahead and open up your E-mail browser, hit the “attachment” button and then select the file. In the “To” line, go ahead and put that address in the box. Go ahead and hit “Send”.
8. Within about 2 minutes, a message should appear on your phone. This is your file that you sent there just a short time ago. Go ahead and download it. .
9. Go ahead and save this. Congratulations — You have a brand new ringtone.
